The list / 3 seasons / Sierra default
Pack once.
Pack right.
This is the master 3-season list — the one I open before every trip and adjust from. Check items off as you pack. Set your group size to split shared gear properly. Your progress is saved on this device, so you can close the tab and come back.
The 3-season list
/ canonicalHow to use this
Group size divides the weight of shared items (tent, stove, first aid kit, bear canister) across the people carrying them. Set it before you start checking things off and the per-person weight totals at the bottom will reflect what you'll actually shoulder.
Optional gear is the line between fast-and-light and camp-comfort. Trekking poles, a book, a flask. Toggle the switch off if you want to see only what's essential.
Trip pages have their own checklists, pre-loaded with the same gear plus notes specific to that trip (extra layers for high elevation, bear canister requirements, etc.). Your check state is tracked separately per trip.
What's not on this list
Anything you carry on your body when you start walking — boots, the clothes you're wearing, your phone, your wallet. Your hiking poles aren't on the weight total either, since they're in your hands.
Permits. Ride-sharing arrangements. Bug repellent expectations. Whether you owe your hiking partner gas money. None of it weighs anything but all of it matters.
